My Apologies to John but…

My apologies to John Mayer, but I have reworded one word in his rather lovely hit song “Say” to suit my entrepreneurial audience a little better. Now, it captures the very essence of what I believe makes a heart-based entrepreneur shine, excel at all they do and earn abundantly.

Here are some of the lovely lyrics to John Mayer’s song “SAY”.

You can listen to it here if you like: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WQtGqmi2O2U

Say what you need to say [x8]

Have no fear for giving in
Have no fear for giving over
You’d better know that in the end
Its better to say too much
Then never say what you need to say again

Even if your hands are shaking
And your faith is broken
Even as the eyes are closing
Do it with a heart wide open

I want you to replace the word “SAY” with the word “DO” each time you find it in the song, and then apply it to your business.

Seriously! Saying words is pretty easy and many entrepreneurs are blessed with the gift of the gab! However, what you actually DO is going to separate you in a BIG way from your competitors.

Here are the concepts I particularly think could change your business:

Do what you need to do

Most heart-based entrepreneurs feel very strongly about their gifts and talents and want to make a difference in this world. This is doing exactly what you are meant to do, and I urge you to do it without holding back.

Successful entrepreneurs take action! They do not wait for things to be perfect – or for the stars to line up. They are busy taking (often far from perfect) action. The universe will course-correct as they do this.

Even when your hands are shaking

Do what you need to do, whether or not you have fear. If you haven’t taken on a project that has your hands shaking, then you simply have not given it your all yet. Could you be getting in your way, because you are playing too safe?

It’s better to do too much, then never do what you need to do again.

Don’t hold back and then regret it later! I always have a delightful feeling of peace and closure, regardless of the outcome, when I know I have done exactly what I planned to do and not held back. I wish you this peace also.

Do it with a heart wide open

I specially love the line about doing it with your heart wide open. I use this so much in my business. I prepare for sales calls by opening my heart and dropping my defenses. I really want to go into situations with my heart wide open for all the possibilities and all the outcomes. If you don’t – you will miss them!   I think this is the opposite of what so many people do. Do your defenses go up because you fear the “no” or rejection by potential clients so much? I respectfully suggest that if you do what you need to do – if you are right for the client, tell them and if you aren’t, also tell them.

Action Steps

1. What is the single most impactful action you can do this week to move your business to a much more strategic place?

Spend some time thinking about this and then write it down.

2. Then, do it with your heart wide open, even if your hands are shaking!
