Faith in Your Business Epiphany

I was watching TV on a lazy Sunday morning recently, and caught the tail end of Oprah’s Super Soul Sunday, just as Mastin Kipp told the story of the small 8′  x 8′ room representing the size of his faith.

And then it hit me. The size of our faith is a mega-indicator of our business success potential. And this is true regardless of how religious you may be or what your beliefs are. The fact that I see demonstrated daily by my clients is this:

Your faith and belief in yourself, your future and your businesses is arguably the best indicator of your future success as an entrepreneur.

Kendra Prospero
Turning the Corner LLC

When you BELIEVE you are going to succeed, this totally governs your decision making. You act boldly and fearlessly, bounce back from mistakes, and think expansively. I am reminded of one of my favorite clients, recruiter and career counselor  Kendra Prospero, winner of The Startup Expert business of the year award last year. She broke 6 figures in her first year of business, and we celebrated the holidays with a company lunch that boasted around 10 people. She never considered failure at all; her business Turning The Corner LLC’s growth was meteoric because her big decisions were grounded in a place of confidence. She has always had huge faith in her ability to succeed.

Sadly, the converse is also true. I watch entrepreneurs who really don’t believe in their ability or their future success. I watch as they make small, fearful decisions, one step forward, two steps back. You can’t succeed with this lack of belief and faith, and sadly their progress is predictable and unimpressive.

Luckily, when your work matters and you are doing what you are meant to be doing – then it is about something way bigger than you. This is your universal and divine permission to BELIEVE, and to take FEARLESS, COURAGEOUS ACTION.

I leave you with a few more words of inspiration from Oprah’s show: “Fear is trusting in your own power. Instead, trust in the universal and the Divine. When you are doing what you are meant to do, all you need to do is get out of your own way”.

I don’t often see blog posts about faith in business, but it’s certainly true that whatever your believe system is about faith effects your business in a big way.

Faith is so important for success it isn’t even funny!

Look at Napoleon Hill’s quote “That which the mind can conceive and believe, it can achieve!”

Also, there is a psalm out there that says “Faith is being sure of what we hope for, and certain of what we do not see”

Basically, Hill is saying that you must have faith and believe in what we hope for (conceived thought), in order to achieve it. To achieve, you have to take solace in the unknown of how it will happen (what we do not see).

As long as you have unwavering belief (faith) in your idea and work towards it, the unknown dark will turn to light :)

Beautifully said Paul. I especially like what you say about the “unknown dark turning to light”, that is an eloquent description of what faith in your business and your abilities can do!

    Tommi,

I absolutely belief that our faith in ourselves much be as big if not bigger than our mission. In fact, the more faith we have the bigger our dreams and the more possible it is to achieve them.

    Fabulous post.

Such an important message – faith and belief is such a strong dictator of our actions. Whether we act boldly and courageously or whether we hesitate and question our ability, we are acting on what we think and believe.

This is truly a great post Tommi! It has allowed me to look back where my faith and belief in myself was strong and not so strong……and I can see the correlation with the times of struggle and fear when my faith was waning but I didn’t realize that was happening! Thanks Tommi!

    Tommi,
Many leaders fail because they do not even believe in their own ability to lead.
It all begins with belief in your own abilities. Why you have them and what you
are meant to do with them.

    Tommi
Third post this week about fear! I’m so glad you’re writing about this topic, because when we address and overcome our fears and worries we can move on to greater successes – like Kendra.
And I agree with your statement: When you BELIEVE you are going to succeed…you act boldly and fearlessly, bounce back from mistakes, and think expansively.
But I do find that many people need more than belief and courage – they need to also address nutritional and biochemical imbalances (like low serotonin and low zinc) so they can feel confident and optimistic and calm again. And this is where I help!
I just love Oprah and love the quotes you shared – thanks!

      Trudy, I really agree!
Self care for entrepreneurs is under-rated and extremely important and I happen to believe an amazing diet is one of the underpinnings of entrepreneurial success. Great point!

Great post, Tommi. It reminds me of the quote, “Whether you believe you can or you believe you cannot, you are right.”

Ooo! I love that final Oprah quote. She talks the talk and walks the walk, for sure.

Yes, it all boils down to what you believe, and you can tall what you believe by looking at your life, your experience. Your life reflects your beliefs. Always.

Beliefs are simply habits of thought. So, if you want to shift your beliefs, you just need to start shifting your thoughts more toward what you desire.

    Love,
    Katherine

YES! Faith is action. When we take massive action, massive things happen. Thanks Tommi!

Love this post! You’re absolutely right! “Your faith and belief in yourself, your future and your businesses is arguably the best indicator of your future success as an entrepreneur.” If you believe in yourself and have faith, you’ll keep trying when other quit, push through when others give up, and try again, when others choose to walk away.
